1860 Indian Cent & Spoons!!

I did some research looking for sites and I figured out that what is now a large nature preserve once had a house in it (located on the 1866 map and then gone after that). I went there yesterday mentally prepared to hike around in the hopes of possibly finding the cellar hole. Well I parked and walked about 20 feet and it was right there! Unfortunately it being so out in the open also meant that teens have used it for a party hole and also it was likely hunted over -but I thought I would give it a try. ;D

Got some very cool old spoon bowls, a suspender buckle (I think), some tube with a gear on it :dontknow: and a nice 1860 Indian!! My prior oldest Indian was in the 1880s so this is a very nice find for me! :hello2:

The little piece of porcelain I found at another site in the preserve but that one is a challenge. However - I will probably be back to both again at some point b/c you never know!

I also meant to take some site pics but I forgot my camera - maybe next time. ;D

Those pewter spoons are always a good sign that you are about to dig a real good relic or coin!

Thanks! I was very psyched to see it - I thought it was going to be a bottle cap or a shot gun shell :icon_thumleft:

id stay on that site for awhile.

Well I did give it another shot today - I really wanted to take some site pics. So I have included one. But I also snagged ANOTHER spoon! And a big and HEAVY axe head that I nearly left there but I lugged it back to try to experiment with to see if I can clean it up.

Nice Finds!
that scallop design is pretty early, you have a good site there, if it had been pounded, I don't think you'd be locating large pieces like those.
great early Indian!
since I had dug the William III spoon,
I seem to finding not a lot other than spoons & pieces :icon_scratch:
Yesterday I got a pewter teaspoon bowl and an early cast pewter button from a site that never produced any 'Early' finds before.
best wishes for more goodies from that hole :hello:

Thank you ;D I haven't been back because I had to take a break from the ticks and poison ivy!

I did however get some rust remover from this place:

http://www.rustremoval.biz/

and it is amazing stuff and a reasonable price :icon_thumleft:

I have to refine my method since I think I left the axe in a little too long and got some exposed gray metal but all and all I am very happy with it. Soaked it for 1 day :icon_thumleft:

before - after 1 day in another rust remover that didn't work as well-
