I was out driving Saturday morning and saw a yard sale that looked promising. I came across a tiny little glass piggybank that looked fairly old. There were some coins in it and the lady said it was all pennies and that I could have it for 50 cents, so I thought hey, why not? I could see some a wheat penny when I peared in through the crack. It was the kind that you had to break open to get the money out. Here are the totals for what I found in it:

Wheat Pennies:

1916
1917 - 2
1918S
1920
1925 - 2
1927
1934
1940 - 3
1941 - 4
1942 - 4
1943 - 3
1943D - 2
1944 - 8
1944D - 4
1944S
1945 - 5
1946 - 2
1947 - 3
1949
1950 - 3
1950D
1951 - 2
1951D - 6
1952 - 2
1952D - 3
1953D - 12
1955D - 2
1956
1957D
No Date - 1

83 Total Wheats

Memorial Pennies:

Buffalo Nickels:

No Date - 1

Jefferon Nickels:

Poor piggy, but I'd say you made out pretty good for 50 cents. treasure is where you find it even if at a yard sale. HH

Great buy for 50 cents

You didn't break the bank did you? Could have done the butter knife through the slot. Old banks are often worth good money to collectors depending on what it is and who it's made by.

Good Luck

You now have 45 silver coins this year, bud, am I right? Keep it up. 204+83=287 Wheats for the year, or more? You are kicking some Royal ass, bosco!

Yeah, I broke the bank. It was only about a $10 made in occupied japan one. I did try the butter knife trick and got out about 15 coins, but it chipped up the hole, so the bank was virtually worthless after that.

I've found 231 wheats through detecting after the 7 that I found today. I have only found 32 silver coins so far this year detecting. I have also found 122 wheats through coin rolls and another 218 silver coins through rolls also.

I wish I had 10 more to add to my list! :)

The stuff I found in the piggy bank doesn't fit into any of my finds spreadsheets, oh well, haha.

How close are you to 50 indians?

Great cache of coins.

Had you asked a little kid how to get the coins out, using a butter knife, you might still have the bank.

I know, I was a bank robber in my early yrs ;D

You are having a great year, bud! I am stuck on 35 for now. RP and I are actually hunting areas that are too old for Indian Heads. I'm finding more Colonials now. HH!
