Its amazing what people leave behind. Walked my trails for about a half mile today, the watch and fob were in the side ditch, the band just disintegrated when I was cleaning it. Yeah dont remind me of all the scratches I put in my finds, these trails are nothing but packed down gravel and rocks, impossible to penetrate with a shovel or digger. Scored 3 Indians that look as if they were in a battle. The button really broke my heart when I saw what I did to it, Its my 2nd of this type, im really not sure what its from tho :icon_scratch: also found a kids ring, a school bus (or whats left of it) a knife and a Watkins Glen stretched penny token,
enjoy...

Great finds . Doubt you could avoid dinging some of them in that dirt even if you used a whisk broom .

You are finding some great stuff on the trail. Nice Westclox watch. It's in a pretty good shape for a dugout thing. But the vintage CAT fob is a really winner :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright: :icon_thumright:

well....considering where it was found....and what I had to do to retrieve it. I can live with it. And im sure theres more of them up there either in the trails or near the foundations. Ive found alot of Tom backs, CW, and general service buttons up there. These 3 I think are worth the most though.

Nice stuff!!
We have a lot of rocky terrain around here too--it's almost impossible to "dig" with a shovel. That's why I prefer in these areas a small but sturdy garden rake (three or four tines, 12-or-so in!).

I've personally driven my car over all of Prolab's finds while hunting the same area a decade ago. :laughing7: I never searched the roads themselves due to my lack of desire to dig in the hard-packed soil, but it's cool that there are some coins buried in that dirt. I wonder if there are additional trails that have fallen into disuse, and grew in with forest? Those would surely be more productive!

This is great advice Hedden! :icon_thumright:

I think the CAT Watch Fob probably dates to the 1950's. :icon_scratch:

Very interesting finds prolab69! :notworthy:

Yes, there are. ..Theres about 3- to -6 miles of roads that are no longer in use. The Govt used them to dismantle or burn the structures down then bulldozed big piles of dirt in front of them back in the 40s & 50s, Im thinking the watch and fob was lost by one of the Govt workers. Finding these trails isnt easy though, they made new roads and blocked off old roads, so ...unless you have the new and old maps to compare? youll be detecting for clad :laughing9: ...I need a full day out there to follow some of the older hidden roads, A good 3 mile hike is what I have my eye on. Lately ive been just doing the main public roads. Thanks everyone for all the replies, maybe soon ill have some better finds to post

I have a friend who has a GPS unit in which he programed an old (1800's) map. It's great--we can see where we are on the old map based upon today's GPS coordinates! Maybe you should look into something like that to find the old trails!!!!!
HH!!!
