Because of baseball and an otherwise busy life, detecting time has been at a premium lately. Last week I managed a 1907 Indian head penny and large crotal bell at my cousin's old farm (but I forgot to take pictures ), then went out for a few hours on vacation yesterday. It was slow going, with the first find being a half dollar sized token for Celluloid Starch. When presented with five cents, this token was good for a large box of that product. I may have to do some more research to see if that was really a deal! Second was a disk with the number 1 impressed in it; it's about the size of a quarter and the only thing I can think of is a ball marker for golf. Finally found an older coin (a '36 wheat) then the heartstopper: a 1916 Mercury dime! Unfortunately, there is no "D" on it . It's the coin that always makes you hope, though. I finished with a 19 wheat, then ran out of time. Not a bad session, and I hope to return later this week. I was summoned home early because we're supposed to break ground for an addition (finally). I'll be watching the dig for bottles and other artifacts!
