well I finally got out MD'ing after long layoff. The field that I
was excited about had grown back to 10-12" growth of
grass and assorted weeds. I decided to hunt it anyway
and concentrate on areas of lower areas of the field that
was used from 1800 onward.

It was not easy but my first good signal was a 186? Indian
head penny at about 6-7" down. On a hill leading to the bank
barn I found 1944, 1959D, 1940, 1952D, and 1910 wheaties.

Then a goose tag, old plumb bob, another tag that says
sterilized and made in NYC but has a "swastika" on it????, and
what looks to be a spear head that came from the same hole
that junk was dug.

Towards the end of my hunt got a strong signal reading 10"
down. It turned out to be a Large Cent totally rusted out with
no identifiable markings. In the spring, part of this area is like a
swamp - very wet which is why the copper here is really spent.

It was very good to get back out with the old MD and dig
some more relics form the past. If there's any silver in this
field - it could be very old. Here's to hoping! HH!

It takes plenty of patience to hunt a field that is overgrown with weeds. It looks like it paid off for you. :) Me...I'm just waiting for winter and spring.

I love to see large cents...even when they're corroded. You can take the corrosion off with the salt/vinegar/tin foil method. It works very well.

It's my understanding that the swastika was used as a good luck symbol before the nazis adopted it. Glad to hear you got out. Cool finds, I'm sure you'll be talking about silver the next time. WTG. HH. Bill

Look into trying to return the goose tag to whoever or whatever agency tagged it - they'll want to know where you found it and they will likely keep it, but they record all that stuff and it might be interesting to know the history behind it which they should be able to tell you.

thanks all!

yeah I called about band- they are sending me a certificate but no info over the phone. I figure canadian goose - they're all over this area.

Mona unfortunately remove the patina and slab underneath. third one like this from property. That alum. cylinder is Armani Emporio purfume - still has purfume in it. In the middle of 12" high grass - makes ya wonder. *L*

Thanks for the meaning on that swastika ( good luck symbol ).

Cannon - you a rock hound? Someone on another site believes it's a spear head too.
I have no idea but it's solid quartz.

Good digs, a nice asortment of treasures.
That bird tag is interesting.
Keep us informed on what happens with that.

Smiles!
