I finally got out today to detect since the heat here in NC has dropped into the 80's finally. I had scored permission to this 1850's house in the country off the beaten path some weeks ago but it was too darn hot to detect until now. The place was unfortunately a bit disappointing to say the least. The ground was hard as a rock and full of gravel everywhere. I could tell the place has had soil put on top of the original by the different soil colors as I dug. :( Only three coins in the yard by the house, two clad quarters and a 44' wheat. Other than that, it was an "Old Timer" pocket knife (Quindy's ? :tongue3:), tin foil, aluminum siding pieces, Mason jar lids, a "Lady Ethel" hair prep bottle, and asst'd crappe'. :BangHead: Disgusted, soaked with sweat, and ready to leave, I decided to walk through the horse pasture next to the house to check out the fishing pond ($2 to fish ;D). As I walked through the pasture I got a signal and finally found a respectable relic.
Is it an old brooch or shoe buckle though? :dontknow:
Nothing exciting to report, but falls coming Folks. :icon_thumleft:

Have a great weekend,
MM

That's a neat old buckle. Are you going to give Quindy's knife back to him?

Pretty sure your Ford piece is a grease cap off a Model A.

That's a very pretty property Doug, looks like a Victorian era Brooch that you found, you can still see the solder points on the back. Very cool find buddy. :icon_thumleft:

That's really neat..... and fancy. What is the piece above the pocket knife? The one with the different size slits in it?
Cool finds. Hopefully this fall will help produce some better finds there.

Thanks baspinall. I've found about 5 of those so far in my detecting career. Lots of old Ford parts out there.

Thanks Josh. Not as good as a shoe buckle, but I'll take it. I saw those solder points too.
Can't wait to get back out this fall and hit some CW relic spots.

Thanks Bill.
That piece you are asking about is a harmonica reed. Lots of those found at old properties and CW sites.

Great finds today Doug! :notworthy:
Most of the guys here are saying your mystery relic looks like a brooch? It looks
too big to be a brooch in my opinion. :-\ I think it's a Victorian ladies dress buckle.

All the best to you buddy,
Dave

Well done you two. That is exactly what it is. :hello2:  Even the solder points match up to the picture Dave posted.
Thanks for the proper ID. :occasion14:

Hey M.M.,
After reading your email I was feeling bad for telling you that you should hunt that house instead of going to that action. But now that I see your finds I think you did all right!
How did the Sham Wow underwear hold up? ;D

Rob,
It's probably best that I didn't go to the auction anyways. You know me, I would have probably came home with more "treasures" that I didn't need. ;D
The ShamWow underwear held of great. Only had to wring them out once yesterday.
I'm still trying to perfect the Slap Chop reale cutter though. :laughing9:

What a great looking place! You might want to go over that pasture area really good. I can remember another spot of yours that had some super keepers in the pasture. :icon_pirat:
The sash buckle is the bomb on that pretty little dress, MM. ;D
