There was a Ferry

Hi All
After reading about a recent river crossing Find
I did some research on where crossings would be around here.
Not quite what I was looking for, but I located where a ferry operated before the bridges were built. A stone abutment, steel cable, & pilings where the landing was.
Over 3 lowtide searches of 3 hours each I recovered a decent assortment.
First I'll describe the most valuable.
$595 in copper and brass scrap, most in the form of thick 5" copper flashing, 140+ pounds of this. the rest asst large bolts, hardware & other pieces.
The scrapman was surprised to see me again, I was just there at the end of July.
In between all the trash and overload signals, my new 6X9 Joey coil got me 3 turn of the century dimes, 2 IHs, my 2nd '5th Wheel Free Drink' token, Life Insurance payment calculator, lead toy pieces, Human molar?, sterling class ring, (I Have Emails out to the School & Organizer of last class reunion), one old pewter button, lots of wheats & modern coinage.
I also recovered one of those zinc 'Crowfoot' battery pieces found at the 'Famous' rivercrossing
Love this Coiltek 'Joey', probably wouldn't have found any coins here without it, Thanks for the recommendation Mike, Great Deal too

Real nice finds,
I'v been contemplating Hunting a few former
Ferry Landings on the susquehanna but Havn't
yet.

They are pretty easy to nail down.
Usually just north of the rock lines

Nuggy, here's a couple pix of that stone, it does have a beautiful 'Glow'
PikesPeakCharlie, I can't believe I didn't notice the crown cap shape
I homebrewed for years.
The round bases & applied rims had me thinking early.
Love the colors sometimes found in 'Mud Glass', it usually washes out with the mud..
Michellets, I also think it's a Human tooth, shows no sign of large cavity or other damage to warrant an extraction.
Certainly a keeper, I gave it 'Pentacryl' treatment as with waterlogged wood.

Hispan & Antiquarian, I think this is my 4th of this kind of plate, no idea of their intended use...
I'm putting in some photos of that 'Compact', it was covered in leather I believe.

I know where a ferry operated down by the creek here but the good folks around here don't go four such goings on and sent the constable down there to run him out.

I'd say there was a ferry Finding old coins and small relics while still doing the clean up is a great sign that more will come from this site Looks like a fun spot ! M.R.

unbelievable quantity of river stuff , big ol emerald would have been sweet I hope you didn't kill your coil and admire your quest to find a lost cache of gold and silver HH

the round bottom bottles were often used as fresh water storage bottles on sailing ships * carried as "ballast" each bottle was a meals alottment of fresh water --it was round bottomed so you could not set it down thus have it tip over --thus it had to be held "in hand" once opened till it was drank . - old sea salts get more water scam was to say "my bottle tipped over so I need a "fresh one". -it also made sure the bottle was stowed sidewizes keeping the cork wet and the bottle properly "plugged".

once the fresh water was drank -- it was replaced with salt water recorked and returned to the "ballast hold"--in case of shipwreck * the fresh water in the bottles insured there was at least some fresh water around if they survived the wrecking - nothing worse than to survive a shipwreck and to find the island your stuck on has no freshwater (slow death sentance basically )
