Hi everyone.
You just never know what you're going to dig. I was at a school from the 1950's that I've hunted many times in the past. I had only found 1 silver Rosie, some silver jewelry, and a ton of clad over 5 or 6 trips. JohnyMc, TNT2000, and myself have been hunting wooded sites all summer sweating our butts off and eating tons of spider webs, so I decided a nice shorts and flip flop hunt was past due. I went to the site alone the other night and hunted the fringes of the property. I got a 43 war nickel and a half dozen wheats. I was encouraged enough to go back the next night and brought JohnyMc along. It was like pulling teeth to get him to this modern site. Immediately, I pulled the 1911 quarter and John's attitude changed. We pulled a nice pile of wheats that night.
Two nights ago I went by myself and found the Washington quarters (50D and 59D). I was digging only deeper silver tones, until I got a signal that jumped between quarter and half and was only 2" deep. I thought what the heck, a clad half or quarter. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read CONNEC on the front. It was a 1787 Connecticut copper! The coin is worn badly and I gouged it because it was on edge. I was still pumped!
Needless to say TNT, John, and I were all back there yesterday! TnT got a nice 1935d Half. Its finally raining here, so hopefully the ground will soften up a bit.
Thanks for reading and looking.
Happy hunting,
Mark G
