Hi all, Due bad weather i have not been out alot this month. With Spring the weather has got better.i been working around an open cut gold mine. Which was owned by some Irish Miners. In the creek below there are many chiness round shaft and a camp. In 1854 the chiness turned up and the Irish didn,t like the ides of sharing the gold feild. The Irish guarded their claim nite and day.Often a few rogue Chiness would sneak around the Irish pay dirt after dark. If caught they where often shoot at.
Another item that was often stolen was good set of boots. Mostly warning shoot where fired but some Irish fired to kill . I have spent about 20 hours around the site and i found these.

That Chinese coin is up-side-down...lol. Great site, though. Hope you keep finding things.

Wow- never seen so many buttons. They must have value to collectors. Now start looking for buttons and maybe you'll find more of that pesky gold. :icon_sunny:

First time on here for me but have been detecting for over 40 years and have never seen so many buttons come form one place. Must have been a Chinese laundry - they loose my buttons all the time. :icon_thumright:

Now THAT was funny !! :laughing9: :laughing9:

You might be interested in reading about the Tong War of Chinese Camp California of 1856. 2100 to 2500 participants with 5000 onlookers from nearby Sonora and Merced. All dressed in full regalia with pikes and pitchforks. Death toll= 4.

I know I'd have to follow the route the original railroads were built, but I'd love to come across some campsites where the workers stayed while they constructed the railroads. So much history to be found in the way of relics.
