Hello all! Went to check out a possible site near my house in the woods. Holy cow were the briers in full bloom. Did some scouting around and found what appeared to be an old foundation of sorts. Started looking around and seen holes dug everywhere. Seems to me someone else had the same idea I did about checking out this area. I don't know about everyone else but...this area is owned by a local company and doesn't mind people riding around on four wheelers and using it as a recreation area. That being said I still suggest that you fill your holes back in and take your zinc canning jar lids with you. I filled all the holes back in that I came across and even re-scanned the piles of dirt they left behind. I guess my hole filling paid off...found this lovely jewel. Coolest buckle I ever found and someone missed it in the hole. Does anyone know about what age or what it was used for? Looks like a Santa Clause belt buckle or dress buckle. Thanks for looking and fill your holes no matter where you are. 65mmx90mm

Nice buckle. :icon_thumright:
Not filling holes is just bad karma IMO.
I was once hunting a CW site that had some unfilled holes around on it. I was surprised since it wasnt a place that was way out in the woods or anything. Anyway, I was scanning their holes as I went and got a solid hit in one. Target was deep and took some effort to get it but out popped a US buckle.
They were so close but so yet so far and I took it home with me. :headbang:

Only takes one find to make your day when it's a good one. Your lucky that the "guts" are intact most are rotted out and only the frame remains.

Agreed man, no matter how far in the woods you are fill your damn holes. I guess that shows just how big a hurry that hunter was in to miss a find like that.

I'm no authority on this stuff, but believe it would be called a sash buckle, given it's size. I stand to be corrected.

Looks to be silver. Can we see the back of the buckle?

Pretty buckle! Looks like it was a silver plated one.
For years I would be disgusted seeing some sites where the holes were not filled in but then over the years I started to realize that on sites that only I hunted and if I came back to the same spot a day or two later, some of my holes appeared to be not filled in but in reality it was animals digging out the loose soil made by my hole, guess looking for a free meal. Thinking a larger animal like a fox, raccoon, skunk, possum. So when in the woods, those open holes are not always holes that were not filled in, they were, but those darn varmints just trying to make us detectorists look bad! ;D
