GoldMine,Scavengers and Skeletal Trees in "Dead Horse Gully"

Hi all, About 7pm this evening the wind picked up and dropped the temperture back to 90 degrees. I thouht i might go check out an area i have not been near for years.Only 10 mile drive but i was surprized how the area had changed. Large area of new undergrowth and many of the large tree had died during the drought that lasted 7 years. Growth was due to really wet winter we had last year. Walked along an old fire access track to a clearing and spotted a few Magpies feasting on the insects.Worked around an old shaft and managed about a Gram of gold in 3 pieces. The magpies are a cunning scavenger like a crow and will eat just about anything. I would fill my holes and as soon as i was few feet away they would wonder over and pick off anything that moves. These birds are quite tame but will dive bomb you when nesting. Seen some nasty beck holes in people. Going to be humid and real sticky tomorrow but should cool with thunderstorms late in the day. DEAD HORSE GULLY is the locations correct name. No idea why .

a bit like seagulls at the local fisho, never miss an opportunity - as I see you don't either - starting to think I want some nuggets - Tinpan is there any worth in MD'ing north of Drake or anywhere up to the QLD border - e.g Warwick, or is it all too small / sparse? All are within a decent drive. I've also been tinkering with looking for relics around the Emmaville fields - in from Deepwater and Glen Innes? I've even read stories of old mines in Brisbane, gold in Ennogera Ck- including a rumour that one lies on the end of Queen St Brisbane - I heard this from the foreman on the Crown Casino job some time back?
and cracking nugs :headbang:

Bingara is a longer drive but being a larger gold feild than Glen Innes . More chance of a few relics , gold is always there finding it is the hard part. I have hit spots that have been hit in Victoria with mds for 30 years and still manage small pieces. It does matter what machine just be slow and listen. When least expect who knows. Over years i got home empty handed many times. My advice is buy a Minelab 4500 with a small coil [mono] this best machine which you came buy a lot cheaper that a new 5000. learn something about the types of mining in your area and the poeple that mined. I think what i can remember chiness did far bit of mining in Bingara. "Not how much area you can cover but how well you cover the area." 60 square feet should take 10 minutes. Most mders are lazy will not move dead scrub or trees out of the way or climb the banks. Hire a gpx first and try it for a week end. Dig as many targets as possible and only gold and lead sound the same. Takes a bit to get use too.

tinpan "Many give up before they have started " remind your self of this and good luck

We used to have thousands of Magpies in the desert areas of the United States. They were black and white, very brave and brash, would eat most anything, but from your photo, I think they were smaller birds than what yours are. Your Magpies appear to be about the size of our Crows and Ravens. Sadly, West Nile Virus has nearly wiped the Magpies out, and it's a rare treat to see one now.
