Today I had the pleasure of hunting my local masonic lodge in cabell co but did not turn up much except a few clad coins and a lead billet that reads ohaus. After a while of not finding much I went to a spot that is pretty new to me but have visited a time or two. After about five minutes I hit a good signal and dug my second hole and pulled out my first 3 ringer :blob7:. After thanking the good lord above I continued the hunt and dug up this killer brooch that just amazed me. :notworthy:. Then agian I had a small hit and decided to dig one more hole before the day was done, I pulled out this old lead soilder that looks to me like a ww1 soilder. None the less a had a great day in mother nature and a new area to go back to. Happy hunting from huntington WV. The sheild is from another location near me and I am not sure what it is, It looks like a hat sheild or a sleeve shield, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, I had a pretty good day. I wish I would have found some good silver coins but I am very happy to have not come to the house with only clad. lol

To me that is an awesome broach. I can remember lead soldiers just like that when WWII started, then they disappeared and mom wouldn't buy me the plastic "junk" soldiers. Probably affected my mind, because I still remember it. That house is 700 miles away, but I bet there are some in the yard if a person could get on there and look.

Thanks guys, I am just an amature with a little bounty hunter II MD. I use to find old bottles and arrowheads. I purchased this cheap detector about a year ago, I am getting used to it but need to upgrade very soon. I have some good spots near me with history dating back to the savage land grant. I have paid for the detector at least two times in finds but know I could do better with better eqp. This has become very addicting thats for sure. I dont have anyone to hunt with but I am used to that from all the years of hunting glass and arrowheads, but I hope to get to go on some club hunts or find a partner someday. I spend lots of time in the books and looking in the library's but now I cant get sleep due to the weather and the fever.lol

Your cameo brooch is terrific. My wife would have it in her jewelry box in a heartbeat. Do you think that's real ivory?

That's the second cast lead bar I've seen posted recently. The other was a Lyman casting. I am familiar with Ohaus from their line of reloading scales but they are a big company with a lot of product lines. Nice finds.

I am unsure if it is real Ivory or not but the piece is very nice, I almost pee'd myself when I dug it out of the ground about 10 inches down. I played like Clint Eastwood all cool when I first saw the peice come out of the ground. I put it instantly in my front pocket and kept swinging my Md so nobody would think I was finding anything. I was in an open field right out in the middle of everyones view.lol. So to keep it looking good I just played it off like I was not doing very good. Shame on me HUH. When I got home I took a real fine toothbrush to it and it just started to shine . The stone underneath is purple and has no bad marks at all. I am going to take it to a jeweler to take a look. Just like all of my other stuff, it will go in the china cabinet and stay until I die. LOL. I just hope the next gen of kids appreciate it as much as I do.

Interesting finds :icon_thumright: The cameo brooch is wonderfully detailed, and its frame is quite unusually shaped. The material can be resin (acryl) that accounts for its preservation in the soil. Anyway, there is always a way to check this out with professionals.

That is a awesome cameo man.

I'd take that over old common silver anyday. I live for those kind of relics. I got some nice cameos in my yrs of hunting.
