"Success today at my first competition hunt."

I had a good day at the 20TH annual competition hunt held by the " Chesapeake Society of Treasure Hunters" at Sandy Point State Park on the beautiful Chesapeake bay. I found about $9.00 in clad around 125 coins and two tokens for the day. One token netted a nice silver dollar "1926". The second netting a detector Yes I won a Fisher 1212X. This club runs a great hunt and I would recommend it to everyone.

Competition hunts are fantastic. I have only been too one and came away with a gold coin. I figured I used up all my luck so that is the only one I have been to. I agree they are great.

I've hunted a few of those club hunts and they are fun. But even if there are more prizes than hunters I still don't win anything! But I'm getting better every time out. It takes speed usually and I'm not very speedy. Great prize! Monty

Re: "Success today at my first competition hunt."

Thanks to all for the kind words. I failed to mention all the very nice fellow detectorist I met. I learned a lot about what they hunt for what they use and of course I picked anyone brain who had hunted Sandy Point State Park form any information. Small light machines were the choice of the day. The only Minelab I saw was a guy with an with an Excalibur 1000, not the idea machine for a competition hunt. I used the IDX Pro not my Exp II. I think it was a good choice. The only interference I got was from one guy with an old Radio shack detector by I did not have to even try to adjust the frenquency as it was only when we were real close,5 feet, that it happened. It would have been worth it if I had not won a prize but winning a detector was great. I cannot wait until next year.
