For some reason, that one's a bit unusual. On this forum, you usually see Bust half dimes or they're from the 1850's. No scientific data to back up that claim, just the way it seems. Nice find!

Now that you mention it I found a half dime yesterday and it was a 1853...with arrows unfortunately. The only other half dime I found was a 1854.

Thanks for the kind replies everyone, it sure was satisfying digging this beauty. It sure gives me hope for this new site.

I've done some electrolysis with some locks and some big iron items with success, but I don't know if I have the ability to do it with this without toasting it. I haven't tried it with any coins yet.

I'll have to see if I can find a test coin and try it out.
