Found tackle box full of old 40's and 50's lures! (Now with Pics!)

I was digging around in my aunts basement (dirt floor) and saw the edge of what I thought was a tool box sticking out of the dirt. I dug around it pulled it out, opened it up and it was a tackle box full of old lures and reels, all in decent shape. All the lures were wooden and I'm guesssing 40's and 50's, a bunch of different brand names, one in the original box. I didn't find it metal detecting, just digging. These might be worth something.Someone had done some work in the basement back in the early 60's and some stuff got covered up with dirt, this just happened to be in the stuff. I was thinking about rinsing them off, could that hurt them? They're just a little dusty... I'll post some pictures when I get home from work if anybody's interested. Or is this a little too off the beaten path? Maybe I could get paid back for having to blow off detecting and playing "clean out the old house" the last couple of weekends. Who knows?

GREAT FIND..

Do some research on those lures..

Ebay is a start..

Some old lures are worth $$$$$$$ ..

If you decide to get rid of them don't give them away cheaply..

Nice find Pirate, I've heard that some old glass-eyed lures sell for hundreds of dollars. I don't think I'd put them in water, just brush them off with a soft brush and some compressed air.

Here's a link to get you started! GOOD LUCK http://www.mrlurebox.com/misc5.htm

There are some old lures that will get a couple thousand $$ easy and many will get a few hundred $$. Take the time and do the research, it should be worth the while. If you get a moment, please post a few pictures, I would like to see what you've got. :) Here are a couple of links for you to look at.

R,

nice finds; could be a few bucks there for ya.

Got two boxes when my Dad died, but just
cannot get around to selling them, been years
since he passed, one of those things.

Again, nice find; make sure you research prior
any sale.

have a good un.............

Those to long ones with the spinners on the ends look like hot ones as well as the two piece one,and the one on the upper left, I recommend as little cleaning as possible and only to identify, then list the identifiable one seperatly, them the others as a lot, if they are a little dirty state that as it will likley help. Very cool find, I always wanted to make a lure display, but enjoy the investiagting, identifying, and finally the Sale ;D way to much, Albert

Re: Found tackle box full of old 40's and 50's lures! (Now with Pics!)

Thanks for the advice folks. We have an Antique Spectacular here several times a year and there are people that collect everything. I got $800 years ago for 2 vases (Hull Double Cornicopias) that I dug out of the dumpster over at another aunts house that cousins had thrown away. I may trot them out there then and shop them around a bit. I can research them some between now and then.

Thank ya'll a bunch,

You might also try Rick Collins at Bass Pro Shops in Springfield Mo. I know Johnny Morris is always buying old antique fishing equipment.
