Visited the new site over this weekend and had a few decent items, no silver but a very nice early Iron Age Brooch. A two piece Colchester brooch, these seem to have developed along different lines to that of the fibulae.
The two piece brooch has a separate spring and pin and has a date range of between 50and 80 AD. Many derivatives from this form exist including dolphin, headstud and T-shaped brooches. Not perticually a rare brooch.. what really intregues me is that the coils on the integral bilateral spring and hook issuing from the back of the bow are still fully functional, and apart from the missing pin (proberbly why it was lost) the brooch is almost complete. There could be a good chance of a ealy coin from this site, time will tell.

UPDATE ON THE STRAP ENDS..BELOW..

Consider my ignorance when I say I like items 2 and 3 at least as much as the broach.

Thanks for the description, it makes much more sense looking at it now knowing that it's primary function is more of a fastener.
It certainly is in good shape for being so old.

For the record I'm glad your back too.

Rick

Thanks Rick.....Sometimes I forget to explaine the functions of the items I post, Jeff asked about how it works, so I added the extra imformation which makes the post much better, I will be doing this more in the future.

Good finds. Apromising site for an early coin indeed. Excellent photos by the way, slightly reflective surface gives an even light balance that really shows the finds at their best.

Unfortunately I missed this post because I was out of town and covered up with work... Glad to have found it hiding on the second page. The brooch is a fantastic find, and amazing that it is almost complete. I am replying to bump this up to the top again, where it deserves to be, and also to tell you that I'm so glad that you are still sharing your fantastic finds with us here on Tnet.

Best Wishes,

Buckles
