I found the usual assortment of lead, shell casings and other odds and ends today and I also found a button that looked like a civilian one at first glance.
However, when I got home and cleaned it a little I saw the Scovill backmark and got a little excited. Upon closer examination I believe I have a Navy cuff button. It has an eagle on the front on a lined field surrounded by five pointed stars and a rope border. There is a dent running diagonally through the eagle and that along with the poor condition makes it hard to recognize.
This will make the fourth eagle button I have found here in the deep south.
