Old Stonewall's cleaning method works better than electrolysis. I will never use Electrolysis again on my iron. Apple Cider Vinegar is by far the way to get rust off of iron. It may take a week or so, but the results are awesome!...THANKS STONEWALL! Hope ya'll like the pictures.

Hey Zax - looks like you did a pretty thorough job! I've not used electrolysis except once since I discovered the ACV method. I'm sure electrolysis would still be the preferred method in certain circumstances, but for smaller items, the ACV seems the way to go - at least for me. The thing I like about it is being able to just put in in the ACV and forget about it. Anyway, glad it worked well for you.

It is pitted and old, but it is a gun and to me it is a beautiful thing. My first dug gun and a great relic. That to me is what it is all about. Working on this pistol made me realize that even a rusted up piece of metal can be brought back to life. It took a week, but it is ready for that display case I have been working on. Once again thank you for showing me the way.

"even a rusted up piece of metal can be brought back to life." Precisely. It's a great feeling to see something like this saved. I just finished part of a curry comb handle and shell fragment and am working on an ax head. Thanks for posting the pictures.
