Like is common for newbies to do your "probably" concentrating on big signals, Sure some of those can be interesting, but if your looking for coins, you need to concentrate on targets that are smaller, IE only make tight sharp tone over a tiny area.

If you can pick you coil up a foot and still get a loud signal, chances are it is not a coin.

It is also posssible there were no coins where you were. Just as in real estate it's all about the location, but pennies at least are pretty common, and should be able to find a few just about anywhere.

The "thing" with the square holes looks like it may be a wagon wheel hub ?...but that's just a guess.

thats exactly what it looks like! just cant seem to find one thats metal.
