Roman Brooch Field - Day 2...
The team is back - Dad & I did 5 hours gridding with an excellent result:
50 Roman Bronze Coins
2 Poor Quality Roman Silvers - 1 of Tiberius AD16 (very early for us) Tribute Penny Type
Roman Bronze Strap Fitting - 2 way (4 hole) - none recorded on the PAS, only a 1 way (2 hole)! First I have seen.
First Iron Roman Hobnail
Bottom of a Roman Box Seal
Roman Pin/ maybe thin bracelet??
Bits...

How do you find Gold coins? Reply: 'By finding lots of Silver ones..'

Excellent result is understated. And the hobnail is my favorite. I never found one, but i know buddies who have dozends of them. Seems it depends on the area you're detecting.

If you think about it this coin before our invasion of AD43 & being quite far inland most of our Roman Settlements don't take off until the middle of the 2nd Century with the peak of activity in the 3rd & 4th C.

Man, your finds are amazing. It seems that every time you go out you find something that is historical and predates anything we have here in North America. Well done and I always look forward to seeing your next post.
I think though the coolest thing about your hunts is the fact that you can get out with your dad. My dad loved history and would have loved this hobby I really wish I would have taken it up sooner.
