Howdy All, I hit another thrift shop today and there was a bag of money in the display case marked "foreign money $50". Took a chance and bought it. There were 20 Guyanes $1000 bills. Exchange rate is $4.90 each or $98 for all. There was a couple of mercury dimes, a 1890 Indian head, Fake cut spanish reales, and lots of other goodies.

I dislike the goodwill in my town. They research everything and now only junk is on the selves and yet people buy it. It that would have been at my local goodwill it would have been marked around $150.

Cool find. I think I would have passed it up and missed out on a nice score.

Same with my Local Goodwill...Every Painting has the back paper ripped off to see if its an old or orginal, and the shelves are junk..

In my opinion, Goodwill, Salvation Army, Thrift Stores and other stores, that collect and sell donations in order to support a host of charitable programs, are becoming more aware of donation values.

It's important that these stores research posters, paintings, and other items to ascertain if they are in possession of a valuable assett.

What they place on the shelves is their business.

What is junk to one person may well be a treasure trove for another.

I've stopped going to the Thrift stores around me. Just too expensive. They had a nice $20 camera for $80. They had a Peter, Paul and Mary Boxed Set that I could get new on Amazon for $20, their price, just $40.

My wife keeps going there for the Furniture (we have a house full of furniture, and a garage that has enough for 2 more houses).

Last month a woman found $1,100 in cash in the pocket of a $3.50 coat at the thrift store and gave it back. You never know what you will find unless you look.

Yeah last yr I could find some good resale items at the thrift shops around me but not this yr. Every once in a while I go in but come out the same, empty handed. It is hard to make a living on their stuff now. I guess garage sales would be better. Good thread
