Bullet and casing

Had a nice find yesterday I think. It appears to be a bullet and casing where someone had cut open the case and lit the gunpowder on fire. There are scorch marks around the opening. Nonetheless, if in fact it dates to CW, a good find for a "junior" member

That's a 56-56 Spencer round, one of the earliest rimfire cartridges. Used extensively in the Civil War, I've founds dozens and dozens. Nice find!

Yep definitely thought it was a Spencer but I like the fact that it appears a soldier had cut it open to get out the powder.

Actually, it looks like someone tossed it in a fire, and it exploded, which blew it out of the fire and prevented it from further fire damage.
