Musket balls, buttons and whatsit...

I hit a site today that has produced items from as far back as the 1600s. I don't think the buttons and Musket balls are older than 1800s, but the gear looking thing has me puzzled. I have no idea what it is, but I have also found and an American Light Artillary 1st reg button so could it be artillary related?

Man you found some nice buttons there Hanging. Real beauties and that Light Artillary 1st Reg. button is a killer. I have no idea what that gear looking thing is, might be from a clock possibly or a rosette from a horse's harness.

very nice finds. I'll bet you'llbe going back to that site-I know I would. I don't see many postigs of colonial finds in Florida.
