Hunt after work gets me my first Rhode Island button! Other relics too.

Had a cold, messy day today. We worked for a bit and got 2 jobs knocked out. Thought it was gonna be raining and sleeting too hard to go metal detecting, but once we put our equipment away for work it had stopped. So I headed over to the farm where I found my sword plate on monday. Started off slow as usual. Found a tiny flat button in one field. Switched to another field and didn't find anything there. Went to another and found a round ball, spencer and part to a pocket knife. Made my way back up to my cousin then we worked in a field for a little bit. My first good signal I get was the Rhode Island button! A first for me! Of course it looked like a NY state button at first, til I got it home and cleaned it up. It has gold gilt on it, but it does have a dent, missing the back and a little crusty in spots, but I'll take it for sure! Found another penny sized flat button, spencer and a round ball after the Rhode Island button. The Rhode Island button definitely made the trip worth it! Thanks for looking and enjoy the pics! That button is a great find Matt. At first glance I wasn't sure it was a RI button as it didn't match the 3 I've found down here. But yours is a staff button while mine is just a regular state seal (with the larger anchor and Rhode Island across the top). Nice button to add to your collection.

Missing the back unfortunately, Dan. Whether it fell off during the time period or from a plow. I know the few buttons like this I have found, none have the back. The last Virginia button I found did have the back in the hole with it though oddly enough.

Thanks, Bill! First I found a VA staff button about a month ago, now a RI staff button. Pretty happy. The buttons weren't very far apart really. Maybe about 60 yards.

I thought maybe it said "U.S." as well, but I think it's "J.S" probably a lead seal of some sort. Thanks!

Thanks guys. From what I'm gathering these Rhode Island buttons don't pop up very often? Super glad that I was able to get one in my lifetime before they all corrode away or get covered by parking lots!

Would you be likely to find one where you are? I know you're IN Rhode Island, but sometimes it's harder to come across that very state button in that state. Hope you get that button someday!
