Headed up to family land to finally check out the old homestead remains that I recently found out has been hunted previously by Gary. Spring is finally springing and although a bit muddy it was an interesting hunt. Lots of rusted junk in the ground - bits of barbed wire, crumbling sheets of what I think may have been tin, square nails, some rounded nails, short square nails that I think may be from horseshoes?, a couple of old 12 gauge shotgun shells minus the paper - Remington Repeater and a PCO League, what I think may have been a plated buckle, a fork from Wm. A Rogers 12 DWT (R) that looks silver plated?, a shoehorn shaped piece that might have been a support bracket or leg?, a thin rounded copper? cap shaped piece with an open center, a clear bottle neck, ceramic pieces... And what I think is a lot of old harness pieces? Any help identifying stuff is greatly appreciated.
The main foundation looked like it had 3 sections to it - a main room, a back room and a side room that was a bit lower than the main foundation. A circle of stones about 5 yards away must have been an outside fire pit? About 10 yards kitty corner uphill from the main house is another small (maybe 6' x 8') stone foundation that I wonder if was for animals? Past the fire pit is the "garden" where flowers still pop up every Spring. I think I may have found their dump area... I'll check that on my next trip.

Annuals that still pop up to this day.

From what I could find on the silver plated fork - it seems like it could be late 1800s, early 1900s...

Thanks Mz, it was my pick of the bunch as well - more of a personal thing than all of the other stuff I found. I just wish it was a better silver piece! Haha.

Cesna, where there is one fork there is potential for the rest of the set And the fork indicates some wealth in the family. From all you found on your first time looks like you've your work cut out for you and many more trips. Best of success with your hunting..............63bkpkr

Thanks 63! Yeah, there's lots to still explore and hunt up there for sure. Gary, for sure I'd like to touch base and maybe hunt sometime so I can learn from someone with your experience. We were supposed to hook up with family for making another batch of maple syrup yesterday but it hadn't run much the previous days so they didn't come up. I figured it'd be a good day to play up there even though its still pretty wet and muddy. My days off have been few and on Mondays and Fridays If I'm actually in town I have our toddler to watch to give her grandparents the day off. I might be up on the hill tomorrow - I still have to figure out what the family plans are... The ground is always so wet up there and the condition of the stuff I was pulling out of the ground was certainly "toasted"!
