Found This At The Site Of A Union Army Camp Near Adams Run S.C. I Believe That It Was A Child's Toy, But It Is Made Out Of Bronze, It Appears To Have Had Rockers At One Time, But They Are Long Gone. Does Anyone Know If They Made Toys Out Of Bronze In The Mid 1800's ? It Has Several Small Areas That Have Been Exposed To Fire, So Maybe It Came From One Of The Plantation Houses, That Were Burned Down In This Area. Any Info Would Be Appreciated, Thanks For Looking. trk5capt...

My wife collects little horses, and I say that to say this...

Horse toys made from bronze, brass, and everything else were historically as common then as toy cars are today it seems! And most unmarked... It's like our spaceaged decendants wondering how many companys made tootsietoy & matchbox like cars. :-\

It would be really cool if someone knows about your horse though!!! Good luck!! :)

Nice Find, Looks like it may have had wood rockers?
Been watching it rain most of the day, sure would have liked to do some detecting today :'(

How big is that horse?
Is it bigger than say ...the lead soldier kind? Could the feet have been inserted on a platform with rollers? or like a metal stand ?

The saddle looks like a polo pony or a race saddle......
Maybe it was the top of a trophy or a paperweight.....

Very unique find.

I'll bet it's a toy horse. I'd love to find something like that!

Congrats.

Very nice find, I love the patina, its a really great colour after all those years of being burried. I would take it to an antiques dealer specializing in bronze sculptures. I think it probably sat on a marble base or something at that you can easily have it mounted on another one and have a really great trophy for your metal detecting find.
