I live in a part of South Carolina where there was almost zero civil war activity, so I've always tried to find colonial era home sites for relic hunting. I recently found out about a home site that was supposedly built in the mid 1800s. At some point, the house burned and a tenant house was built in its place and was used until the 1980s. The area around the tenant house is almost impossible to hint because of the trash, so I moved out further. Yesterday and today I was able to pull these out. The SC button looked like it has a Kendrick backmark. Does this put it in the civil war era? Also how about the eagle button? It's my first SC button, so I'm totally jacked!

Kendrick & Company pre-dates the Civil War I am pretty sure.

That's a nice bunch of quality relics!

I don't know much about buttons but this site is producing a wide time period of items. Does the eagle button look CW period?

A few years ago, one of TN's 'resident gurus', "PBK" responded in this way when another Kendrick button was presented; first, without a pic then later he responded after seeing the pic. Here was his response; I hope it helps you:

"Must be Kendrick & Co. of Waterbury, CT, c. 1830's— usually thought to be the same firm as Ives, Kendrick & Co.
There are a couple of Kendrick & Co. Superfine backmarks.
UPDATE: (PBK's)
Now that you've posted pics, it's clear that the mark is actually " * L & KENDRICK * SUPERFINE"— the mark of Leavenworth & Kendrick, c. 1829-42, the firm of Mark Leavenworth, his son Benjamin Franklin Leavenworth, and son-in-law Green Kendrick.

Don.......

I live in SC too. There's none where I am (spartanburg). But the other day I found a minié ball hahaha. Sure was a nice surprise. I usually travel over 3 hours just to dig CW stuff. Sweet SC button

The navy cufflink is also a very nice find. Cufflinks in general don't show up too often.
