I thought maybe it was a kids toy at first. I have been looking for it and can't find that exact one. I believe it maybe a rare one. I hope someone on here can figure it out.

Thanks for the link. They r reproductions though and it's not exactly the same one. Wow though, says 1855-1870. I normally never sell anything I find unless cash is a little tight. Right now I have no interest in selling it. I am curious what it's actually worth

I looked for it.. It was right under the surface maybe two inches. I found 24 cents and nothing but aluminum and alittle copper scraps. One good thing is, he's gonna rip up his yard to do some work. I'm hoping it will unmask some targets because I know there has to be some good coins at least. Thanks for all of your replies!

Yours looks a lot like a horse bridal piece. What's the back look like?

Rare indeed. There have been more George Washington inaugural buttons dug in the last month than this buckle in five years on tnet.

I've collected police and fire memorabilia for the past 35 years. Your buckle is 100% legit and dates to post civil-war up into the early 1900's, when the collective thinking among urban police departments was that equipment belts, accessories and weapons should be out of view (under the overcoat.) If that belt was lost or discarded all at once, then the wreathed half is nearby, so good luck finding it! You have a great piece of police history, congrats. Sub 8-)

Thanks everyone for the input. That's y i love T-Net. So I do understand it's a rare piece. What I don't know is what department it would have been from. I'm curious in how much it could actually worth. The one site mentioned for me to look up, was nice. Although it's just a site to buy reproductions. It doesn't really give any info on it. Thanks again everyone!!

Wow, don't see those dug everyday :O, awesome... if only the the buckle could talk...I'm sure it would have a great story to tell.
