Wow you killed it out there. I have only found one dragoon button in all these years. I managed to find only one in the middle of a huge assortment of other buttons. I'm thinking mine came from someone on the field who collected buttons cause I found the dragoon, two artillery, and a pocketful of general service. You are the man my friend. Great job

That's some great finds. Without being two specific, what part of Texas are you hunting? North Texas, East Texas Piney Woods, Gulf Coast, Hill Country, the Valley, West Texas, the Pan Handle? Hunting Texas covers a lot of ground.

Don

Relics like this typically come from pre-war West Texas sites.

Beautiful Republic of Texas Artillery. I usually go down to Texas once a year to hunt with some friends from Dallas. My one buddy has about 150 Republic of Texas buttons. I have found Dragoon and Rifleman buttons down there and some multi ring Sharps bullets. I would love to find a Republic of Texas button.

Wow, all you can say is Texas? I guess I'll keep this in mind when I start going through my stack of historical places to work on relics instead of outlaw / legend stuff. It's not exactly hard to find history around here, I've just been putting my resources in a binder. Thanks for sharing what to look for and good luck. No, you can't see my notes.
