HEY GUYS AND GALS

Made it our for a short hunt today to a new locaton on the salt shore line with Cousin ED.....couldn,t stay too long as had committments at home.
Funny how the short hunts seem to be so productive !!

Will never understand the salt shore hunting........I carefully went over a small area that seemed to have a few old coppers in it...covered it quite well or so I thought.

Went off looking around and then decided to return to the same spot as Cousin Ed seemed to be staying quite close to it. Got a hit right where had already covered....removed the signal...then another hit 6 inches away....removed it ...another hit right in same spot.....and so on for about 10 hits all within a 24 inch circle. This has happened one other time also this winter hunting on the shore. Remove 1 signal and another takes its place but yet when I swung the coil over it there was only 1 signal at the start.

Pulled out 2 toasted coppers / 3 bullets / lock part / couple pieces iron / crowned button and the Spanish real outta that .

The crowned button when wet shows a little bit of gold gilt at top of the crown.

The L D 6:9 COIN I have absolutely no idea as to what that is....is in such great shape for saltwater ...what would it be made of ?

Any help with IDs on the finds would be appreciated.

PICS 2 , 3 AND 4 are Cousin EDs.

Another great day! The good shape coin is actually a coin weight. Going to think on that button.

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Coin weights were made to correspond to the weights of particular coin denominations, and the denomination in question was usually indicated in the design. They were most commonly made of brass or other copper alloy and were generally produced for high-value pieces, gold rather than silver coins. Their purpose was to check the weight of coin in circulation and ensure that coin received was of good quality. Normally they would correspond to the lowest weight at which the coin remained legal tender. They could be used to guard against clipped, worn or counterfeit coin and to check the standards of foreign coin permitted in currency. For example, weights were provided in England for ducats and florins in the sixteenth century; for French louis d'or in the late seventeenth; and for the huge amounts of Portuguese gold in the early eighteenth

I think that button will be a tough ID, because it likely dates very late 1700s, or early 1800s, and there's so many possibilities. And if it's from a unit that didn't see service in North American it will be even tougher. But the large crown being set low like that is distinctive and will help.

Figured it would be tough to ID in that condition...I looked in the book Patriot sent me and don,t see anything even close...appreciate your looking .

What would be the material it is made of..obviously not pewter...seems to be copper.

We're just going to call you "the magic man"! Awesome day!
You clean out an area, go back and find more! Next you won't have to dig, just stand there with a net and they'll just jump right in!

Gonna build me a new net ...see it works :laughing7:

The salt water environment is a puzzle with the detectors.....I can,t figure it out and have spent quite a few days on the shores with it.
