Looks like a Carolus IIII half real (that would put it in the early 1800 range) but unless its incredibly corroded it doesn't look silver... Was this a water find?

No, on land, about 8 inch down.

Since it's condition in all due respect is...terrible, maybe a bath in hot peroxide will reveal a little more detail.

interesting.... I'm not familiar with what the weight of the coin should be so that wouldn't help me... but it very well may help someone else positively ID it.

Since I think I can see the pillars on the reverse its a milled bust 1/2 reale. These were minted beginning in 1772 and into the early 1800s. That's a strange discoloration for a silver coin, but guess anything's possible in a salt water environment. I'd recommend light electrolysis which should clean it up nicely (assuming its silver and not a fake). Nice find!

Congrats on the half reale. Definitely silver but the sand and salt environment does a number on old silver. I'd try a good lemon juice soak. If that doesn't work then a short eletrolysis treatment will make the crud fall right off.
