While waiting for the weather to cool & the rattlesnakes to go to sleep, I hunted a large U.S. camp yesterday in a hay field where the snakes wouldn’t slip up on me-LOL. I dug this misshaped & broken adult size thin brass ring that is plated with yellow gold inside and out. I have dug a couple of brass rings this size in CW camps before. Larry Hicklen of Middle Tennessee Civil War Relics told me that girlfriends & wives sent a variety of ring types from home with their soldiers. Breezie thinks my ring may even be older than CW period and veteran Oklahoma digger John Freeman said it’s period and he has dug two such brass rings (one gold plated & one silver plated brass ring) from CW camps in his 40 years of detecting. With these 3 friends possessing much CW history knowledge believing the ring is period, I’ll happily add it to one of the display boxes from that camp. HH, Q.

That is a pretty ring. I am so glad you found it. A ring like that is in Josh and mine's relic book on page 137 in the ring chapter. Is that where you researched it?

Ya know, that's always been one of my biggest bucket items. I've always wanted to find a really nice, REALLY old gold ring. Something like a rich
person might've worn in the 15-16-1700's.

Nice!

I've found a couple of very plain brass ones Q, but that one is really different. Well done.

Q, I really like your wedding band; it's a neat dig! Does the decoration go completely around it?

Thanks DL, WDID, Dave (Heavymetalnut), you've had a great summer digging Bud, B Bandit, & PW (parsonwalker).

Nana, thaaks for not finding it earlier-LOL.

Thanks for your expertise Breezie & the decoration completely surrounds the ring. HH everyone, Q.

Way to go Q. :occasion14:
That ring once belonged to the Outlaw Josey ZALE'S. :tongue3:
It will make a nice relic to display in your CW display. I've dug a number of old gold plated rings at some of my CW sites, both men's and women's. It's always a special find when you know that the item had so much personal meaning to someone during the CW.
BTW- I think the only rings you'll find in Dman's book are the water rings from someone using it as a coaster. :laughing7:
Congrats Q.
Looking forward to another successful season from the Tenn Trio.

Plated or not, that's an awesome find.

I have to imagine the person who wore it and lost it. Did he live through the war? Where was he from, etc.?

Great dig there Quindy. Makes me wonder how many "good low 20's" I've left in the ground. ???

The Union soldier was either from Indiana, Ohio, or and an outside chance from Michigan as there was a detachment of Michigan cavalry with the infantry there for a couple of days. Thanks, Q.
