Last couple of weekends I have been hitting a pile of dirt I found dumped in one of the lots I hunt. First week I hit some silver some jewelry ans some cool relics, I decided next week to bring a rake and try to get down depper and it paid off. Over a period of three hunts I have done pretty well and still have not hit bottom. Found a model t key, large pocket watch case larger than a silver dollar, a pretty cool old cuff link, couple of old rings, and a old mexican coin still unsure of date but think I see 1917. I know it still holds more for me, lots of old broken bottles and china is every where. never disregard what looks like would not hold treasure, you might be surprised what you find. Sorry if there is repeat pics, lost track of which ones I posted.

I would certainly say piles of dirt do produce, nice finds! We know a guy in Virginia who has a business where he digs post holes and puts signs up . He often takes buckets full of dirt home with him and uses a sifter set up in his back yard. He has found old silver coins nice shards of pottery and everything else in between.

That's real cool it looks like it might be dredged material.. Some of those coins look like they've been in the water for sure

Vegasphotoman, looks more like it was dumped with wheelbarrows than a truck so im sure its from close by in the neighborhood and the age of finds make sense because the area is from the early 1900's. Going to do some detective work this week.

The dirt is a little different than normal and alot of the stuff almost looks like it was in a firepit. Also could be a possibility that it is dirt from a old outhouse area.

Ray, you have some really great finds and pictures.

Most of the silver you find looks like they are made of lead, lol. I wonder do you have before and after pictures of your silver after it is cleaned? Will they even clean up?

Wow,

You found a lot in that little pile, amazing !!

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

Thanks mud(swat). Its in a area spread out 18x20 by about 3' high, raked it down to about a little under 2' if I got there when it was first dumped it would of been easier to rake, but its rained and drys up pretty quick to a hard pack. Well see how far I can get down this next week. I have a feeling this is dirt where a outhouse once was

The dirt in some areas here is really hard on the coins. I usually just soap and tooth brush them kinda like the old look to them, I really need to though shine them up a little more just been busy. I will make it a project this winter when its to cold to hunt.they look like they will never clean up but with lots of buffing the coins come out pretty nice and polished. See if I can post a few in a few.
