Great find, does the government buy that from you, or is this something you can do a private sale? Also, when you do the unique find of one item, how do you split it with the land owner? Also, I'm just curious because I've never had a really valuable item that I need to share with the land owner, in my case they usually don't want anything, or perhaps one or two coins, and of course returned lost items. I would imagine that the coin would have to be sold for a fair split. I wouldn't think the government is interested in everything you find, so what do you not have to turn in? Do you split all the finds with the land owner? You have probably answered this before, if so and you don't want to be bugged, then I'll shut up, but regardless, you have my banner vote.

Congrats on the banner Cru !! That is an amazing group of items ! Awesome job on the identify also! Is the Potin coin even in the first group of pictures? Apparently that is it in the second posting with the cataloged coin, that would be a dream come true finding a next to unique coin for me =)

AWESOME BANNER coin Cru, my vote is in. Did you know what you had when you first dug it?

First second, not sure, then I saw it was cast & I got Dad to GPS it as a Celtic Potin, so basically, yes.

We show all landowners all our finds. Every owner is different. I don't sell stuff unless its too expensive to keep & this one doesn't fall into that bracket. Its not gold or silver & even if it were, I still do not legally need to report it, as its a single coin not an object. I will however record this, if the owner is happy. These owners are happy to take a split of the finds, normally only 10-25 %. (but treasure items or ones of high value are always 50/50)

Hope that makes sense.

Goodness what a great find! Congrats on this one, Cru! That is stunning, and not to demean the hammered silver, the Beautiful Annular Buckle, and excellent Roman Bronzes. Truly a great find--and congrats on your TWENTIETH BANNER!!
