Went back to the site from last sunday for 3 hrs and found where the roman villa once stood. Gridding payed off and i walked home with some nice coins and relics. With the limited time i had i need at least 2 more afternoons to grid the main area complete. A buddy helped for two hrs and walked home with one of the nicest roman coins i ever saw dug. :headbang: I had one really nice too+some others worth cleaning. Other finds were lead, musket balls, gilded strap end, medieval thimble, decorated roman furniture nail and a roman hair pin. Silver of the day is a 1744 1Stuber minted in Cologne.

Great finds! There's no way the site is done giving up her history. Keep at it.

I actually really like the furniture bronze 'tack' thingy the best.

I see the gridding will pay off for you, as the Roman count is already increasing. Don't miss the edges even if they are 'slow'.

Great finds for sure ! It's amazing how 1800 year old Roman coins look better coming out of the soil than modern U.S. coins !
Sad actually -

Way to go Lu! Those coins look in better shape than what you usually find.Virgin site? Do you report that site to your Arkies? Hope it turns into a really good site. Good luck.

Thanks all, there are really some nice coins in that field. You have to swing the coil very slow due to all that iron in the ground, but it pays off. Checking out the aerial pics there another roman homestead turned up in an adjacent field, more for the winter!
