Spent a few hours at a 1930's school today, found a few dollars in clad, a '53 wheat penny and a ring. The ring came in as a 81 which has always been a silver dime for me and when it came out of the ground - 2" down - it looked like copper. When I got home I looked it over better and it has a couple of markings but no "k" marks. I tested it and it held at 14K but disappeared at 18K. Looking online the English standard was 15K before 1932. So maybe a pre'32 gold ring? It weighed in at 6.17 grams.
