Spent a few hours at a 1930's school today, found a few dollars in clad, a '53 wheat penny and a ring. The ring came in as a 81 which has always been a silver dime for me and when it came out of the ground - 2" down - it looked like copper. When I got home I looked it over better and it has a couple of markings but no "k" marks. I tested it and it held at 14K but disappeared at 18K. Looking online the English standard was 15K before 1932. So maybe a pre'32 gold ring? It weighed in at 6.17 grams.

Nice find. I'm not too familiar with british hallmarks but they don't look british to me. No matter what its gold though!

Looks like pieces were carved off from it. Gold coins were often used like that. Strange.
