I've been searching for this thing for two years. A seemingly endless quest.
The day started out cold with frost in the ground. I took my 8 yr old to the baseball field with the F2. Spent an hour with the Etrac chasing down signals and letting him check it afterward. After the number of times last year that I hit this spot, I was surprised how many quarters and dimes that were still several inches deep. He was getting cold so I headed back and dropped him off at home.
Now that I'd had three practice hunts in relatively little trash. Time to try for some oldness.
Headed to the former farm that's now owned by the city. After about 10 minutes I ended up getting a jumpy tone that looked good on the screen but bounced a bit. Turned out to be a wheat under a rusted nut. I was in the area of the yard I thought had been a clothes line before. So wasn't too surprised to find a couple of wheats in with more junk. Actually that's not true. I had hit this same small stretch three or four times with the AT Pro and I can't believe I missed anything.
Next hit, again with rust in the hole had a flash of silver. Smaller than a dime and very thin. Turned out to be a penny play coin. Got the heart thumping anyway.
Next hit was barely a good number and a bit of trash around it. Got a good enough VDI in one tiny wiggle that I went for it. Went 8 inches down. Pinpointer showed something still in the hole, but I went through the pile I'd already pulled out of he hole and furrowed on my towel. Small rusty nail.... Then big rusty nail.... what the duece a third rusty nail. It was a pretty big pile of dirt on my towel. The Pinpointer started to beep again in another side of the pile. I started to drag layer after layer with the flat edge of the Garrett PP. Then a silver edge appeared. Finally after two flipping years I found my primary target. My first Mercury dime.
Another wheat, a bunny cookie cutter, a UMC New Club 12 gauge shotshell base were great to find, but i capped the morning off with a Winchester #12 all brass shot shell was a fantastic way to end a quest ending hunt. Wheats were '26, 41, 47, & 50d.
This Etrac is a beautiful thing. What a great way to start a relationship.
PS I have no clue why my pictures ended up upside down. Anyone know how to flip them?
