Goodmorning all,
Managed to get out for a quick hunt yesterday and found three of these old navy buttons.
Would anyone know how old these are? I have searched the web and can come up with a picture of the buttons, but no date except for a title on a picture - EAGLE ANCHOR GAUNT EVANS MEYER WATERBURY ORIG OLD . Also found a 1912 barber dime and a 1905 Canadian large cent (sorry- no pictures of those)
Hpefully someone could assist in dating the buttons,

thanks

It isn't a US Navy button, it is a US Marine Corps button. That emblem has been on US Marines buttons since 1821 and is still in use today. So, to time-date your button, we need a closeup photo of its back, showing the maker/dealer's name (which, for anybody here who doesn't already know, is called the "backmark").

While we wait for that photo... on your US marines button, the raised rim surrounding the emblem looks narrower than the rim on US Marines buttons from the 1800s, which suggests yours is from sometime in the 1900s. But its backmark is the proof of its actual time-period.

Thanks TheCannonGuy, for the ID. I assumed Navy due to the anchor. Unfortunately, the backs of the buttons are rusted beyond the point of no return.
