I have been hunting this circa 1880's-1940's farm site for over three years now. With recent rains and the grass being very low, it was ripe for another hunt. Today, I slowed the swing and pace way down, and dug everything that repeatedly hit over 40 on the ATPro. I am glad I did. I found two lucky horseshoes right off, followed by a Dudley brass and iron combination lock, with a 1919 patent date. The lead department included slag lead, a fired musket ball, two fired pistol balls, and my first piece of rolled flat lead, in the shape of a pencil! Brass items included a harmonica reed part, a swivel snap loop, a leather rivet, two overalls buttons and a small (sleeve) US Great Seal button with a D. Evans & Co. backmark, pre WW2. I also found a concave brass button with a corroded steel back ( looks like a small bowl.) In the knife department I found a curved pocketknife and a gold-plated side plate off of a small, ornate pocketknife. In the jewelry department I found a nearly complete copper brooch, in pieces, very delicate, ornate floral design with attached daisies. I rounded out the day with a beat up, but readable, 1911 Liberty V nickle. Thanks for looking and happy hunting. Sub 8-)
