After blanking on the hammered coins yesterday, five fell to the Deus this afternoon. The star by far, and one off my wish list a complete Tealby silver penny. These were minted for Henry II 1158-80, before short cross pennies. It may not look it, but it's a good example for this issue. Only ever had cut coins of this type, so well pleased with this. Will post some better pictures tomorrow.

Robert.

Huge congrats on the smashing find Rob, a rare as hens teeth the Tealby Silvers are, well done. :occasion14:

I found one about 6 years ago well worn or a weak strike on a square planchet.

It really deserves a Banner vote...

That is quite the find. Is it possible to get a solid front and back photo? It really does deserve banner. If someone tells me how to vote it from this "smart" phone I'll be voting it in. Sweet little find.

It does look very round for a Telby, congrats my best one is near square in shape, but I love it all the more. Good scarce coin to tick off.

Here's some pictures. Can't put much meat on the bone at the moment. Very busy with work, wife in overdrive about Christmas, and of course detecting .

Very unusual to get a full flan Tealby penny, most were struck on irregular flans. They get there name from a hoard found in Tealby Lincolnshire in 1807. Great coin Rob.

Wiki... While the Tealby coinage was acceptable in terms of weight and silver quality, the overall quality of production was dreadful, so in 1180 a new style of coin, the short-cross penny was introduced.
