We have been trying to think outside the box & come up with a better plan. We have noticed the oilseed rape has done badly this year, so we found an area that had failed on the edges of the field. This field is a Roman Metal Working Site & although the edges were pretty far from the normal spread of coins it was worth a go. Mostly because 1 edge butted up to an Ancient trackway where I did get the best coin of the day. I feel beaten up today after nearly 5 hours, the sticky boots etc is nearly putting me off going out.:occasion14:

9 Roman bronze coins
1839 Sixpence
Broken Buckle
Broken Crotal Bell
Scarce find - Denarius of Claudius AD 46 'Fouree' - my earliest imitation Roman coin, only a few years after the invasion! Plus our only SPQR (iconic) reverse type.
See a better example:
Denarius Claudius, Fourรฉe, Rev. SPQR PP OBCS in wreat : A141 L1029 : Auction Prices

Well done on the Roman imitation, and the early Vickie.

I thought you'd be able to do the sticky boots without any problem by now.:)

Pity it hadn't been a Silver denarius :BangHead: Is that a broken bronze age ring next to the crotal :icon_scratch: Not quite sure because of the picture angle.

Sometimes necessity can cause some great finds to occur. Congrats on the denarius!

If or when (wishful thinking) I ever were to find a coin with SPQR on it...
I'd just pass out.
Allowing someone to steal it, no doubt. So I would think it was all a dream.
Those are just great finds. It blows me away to think of the artifacts which seem "normal" to you...
Congrats!
Always enjoy seeing your finds.

Cru,

Good score on the counterfeit Roman coin....probably worth more than the real ones I'd think.

I've had plenty of practice but it just got the better of me yesterday. It was extra sticky because of the thawing snow, which added extra wait to the boots & now I'm also digging deeper holes with the new machine & 11" coil. (more mud was going in the hole off my boots & spade than came out)

No that's not any fun when it gets like that, but it's good news that you're digging deeper holes now.
