Hello all! I had a 5 day hunting expedition in Virginia at a very historic Civil War site. I did very good & saved a lot of history! The highlights were 2 Maine buttons, an awesome haversack buckle, a Connecticut button & a soldiers pocket mirror with an initial carved on it! The last day I found part of a wreath or tongue buckle & then it was time to go! Hopefully I can return someday to look for the rest. I met up with an old friend in Fredricksburg for a few hours yesterday on my way back to Charlotte. I found a good number of bullets, canister shot, a Parrott fuse & what I believe to be a sabot from an artillery shell. I usually spend a little more time on photos & descriptions but I found a lot & Im beat!! This was my vacation & it couldn't have been spent any better way! Thanks for looking & HH!

The piece I thought was a sabot has been identified as a sabot from a Dyer shell.

Thanks Bill, I appreciate the nice words. The site in Fredricksburg will soon be a housing development. It's sad to think what will be lost. I told my buddy he should hit that spot as often as he can & save as much as possible.

Very nice digs! Congrats. I would be camped out as long as possible before it's covered up forever.

You did quite well Josh. I decided to give up going to those hunts after selling my GPX-5000. Without one of those it's tough keeping up with the competition. What machine were you using?

Thank Bill, I was using a GPX 4800 (a friend let me borrow) I wouldn't do that hunt without one.

Saved is a under statement, Nice digs.

Agreed 100%. I am not against development. That is what keeps are country strong. They need to let people like us go in first, and during, to preserve the history of the site. We have a young man (17) Who has been going with us and has found some cool stuff. He has really been turned on by the history. He know reads and researches the CW, witch I thinks is cool. So many ignorant people think that we just want to hoard the artifacts. That is not what most of us are about. These are some great finds Mangum, and a great vacation. HH. Nut

You did very well, Magnum - and it was nice meeting you in the field. Those Maine buttons sure were toast, but you still were the one to get your coil over them! Congrats!
