I was hoping for something colonial today but still had a decent day. I tried one place and found nothing but junk, I decided to go back to my reliable site that has given up many colonial relics and coins. I ended up finding a coin a little bit into the hunt. I thought that it was either a half cent or and old nickel but was hoping for it to be a half cent. Anyways, After some cleaning I was able to tell that it was a V-Nickel and could make out the date of "1884". I was happy to find my first V-Nickel and a nice early one too. On the way back from metal detecting I stopped at the supermarket and found a 2012 nickel in the Coinstar reject tray. I asked the cashier, who knows me and save old coins for me, if she had anything cool. It turns out the she had a dateless Buffalo Nickel. I handed her the 2012 nickel I found and received the Buffalo nickel. Also, on my hunt yesterday I found a nice 1943p War Nickel. It appears that this was a good weekend for nickels!

(V-Nickel looks nicer in hand but it is still a mess)

Yesterday's War Nickel

I find it strange that I have found many colonial coins, two from the 1600's, but never found a V-Nickel and a War Nickel until now???

Anyways, Thanks for Looking and Happy Hunting!
