I found two pewter USA buttons today in a field near 1/4 mile from the Indian village of Catherine`s Town wiped out by Gen. Sullivan in 1779, i think these buttons are period.
I also found a dropped three ringer,we don`t see many of these this far north .
Found a lot of beer cans and iron too.

Gary, I am so very happy for you, friend! This will be my most proud vote for banner I have cast yet! The Sullivan Trail runs through here as well. I imagine there will be many NEPA hunters out now. Btw, I love your 3 ringer too. We certainly don't find many here, do we?

My vote cast at 1836 EST

Congratulations on those saves! It's important to save as many of those fragile Rev War pewters as possible before they're all gone. Get the Elmer's and practice on some junk pewter like old spoon pieces. before you apply it to your buttons

Is this a house site? You should be getting coppers.

this is a soon to be plowed corn field, near Indian village and the Chemung Canal...i do see some old colonial pottery pieces around too,but no coppers yet .

They sure can, and even once you treat them you have to watch. I was transferring my buttons into some new cases the other day and many of my pewters were decaying to some degree and needed to be treated again. So I did them all again and hopefully this time they hold up. I did try to cheat them a little using a thin coat of lacquer the first time around, but this time I used a little more to hopefully be done with it. I don't know how well the glue method works, but no question you have to check them at least once a year.

Yeah I personally would think that a nice coat of lacquer would be best but as you know I have zero experience with these nice old pewter button :(-
