It's GOLDEN to be back in the STATES. England finds

Hey guys! sorry it's been a while. Me, Dirt Digler and Pickhead just got back from two weeks of detecting in England. Let me tell you, I had a few items that I was dying to return home with. Number one on my list was a Celtic gold stater. One of our buddies Terry popped one on day two. I realized the rarity of finding one and at that very moment I just knew how much my odds decreased. Happy for Terry we all went on hunting and hoping. A few days later after finding several Hammered coins, Romans, Saxon, Norman and Viking artifacts, I got over my dream find. A full gold Celtic stater from the Iceni tribe circa 20 BC! Dream come true! Still can't believe it! Still waiting to hear back from the museum about one artifact in particular. It appears to be a Norman era Mount of some sort. With intricate designs and enameling (or stones) inlayed. Trip of a lifetime! Of course we got it on film... duh! Can't wait to share the footage! Cheers! HH!

I'm betting the museum will return you the Stater. They are fairly common (for ancient gold coins anyway) and a single coin find is usually not considered significant enough to be historical unless the coin is unpublished in the major references. Your Stater is beautiful! The Norman Mount is another story - that may well be considered "treasure" but at least if so, you will get a reasonable value for it!

Congratulations on some phenomenal finds - I'm hoping to get over next year!

The Museums have NO LEGAL RIGHT to keep the Stater at all, because its not legally declareable under the Act. All the finder needs is permission to hunt the land & an export licience to take it out the Country. Only items of National Historial value will not get a Licience, so its a no brainer but a 6 months wait.

PS. The Mount/Brooch is NOT TREASURE under the terms of the act.

Read the Act & learn more, guess less?

Haha, the phallic symbol was an awesome and hilarious find. I was having a rough day and that totally made me laugh. We were actually thumbing through the artifact books a few nights before and laughing and some of the phallic designs, wondering if we'd be lucky enough to get one. This particular one would have been worn on a roman belt for decoration.

Nice example of a silver denarius of Emperor Commodus. The green patina on the Constantine II is gorgeous!

The phallic symbol is a tudor period leather mount, not Roman.

Was this a organised dig were only over seas diggers can go :icon_scratch: If so it's a well known fact that the finds are planted, good finds yes, but for what it costs it's well worth there cost $$$.

If they were not found on one of these digs, then a big Congrats.

Forgot to say, when I said the brooch is Viking period, some try & say its Viking. But they were not made by them just imported into Britain by them from the frankish merovingian Empires. I've never had one yet!
