1800's waist belt plate wohooo!

Got out for a quick hunt this morning at an old house built in 1840. Got a strong signal and dug up this waist belt plate. First belt plate I have ever dug. Not sure why there are holes in it, maybe the person had it mounted somewhere later on. Would love more detail if anyone can identify this.

Cru, you had me interested since this was the first one I remember seeing posted on here too.
Actually found two similar ones, but posted a long time ago. It seems like a pretty rare plate since we hardly see any on here.

The backs on these two seem different... or they are just missing the attachments that lisfisher's still has.

Damned great looking plate. Banner in my book.

My first thought on the holes was tally marks. Number of kills, maybe? Could've been a sniper.

Would anyone know how I can get this "authenticated", or is there an obvious way to determine it's authenticity??

from project Gutenberg.org
The plate illustrated as figure 21 is offered as a possible example of the 1814 design. A matching waist-belt plate is described below (p. 34).

now you have to go and find the hat plate.... and complete the set.

This one in Figure 59 seems close to yours.

The design of this rectangular plate, struck in rather heavy brass, is the same as that offered as the 1814-pattern cap plate for the light artillery, although it is the product of a different and somewhat more crudely sunk die. The piece is dominated by an eagle with wings upraised, a shield on its breast, three arrows in its right talon, and an olive branch in its left talon. Crossed cannon are in the foreground, and there is a pile of six cannon balls in the lower right corner. The whole is superimposed on a trophy of colors and bayoneted muskets. Above is a 5-pointed "star of stars" made up of 20 5-pointed stars.

weird, how the dates are so close and plates are so similar, i didnt see this one.

It is a banner find...
In my opinion this is 100% legit...
But then again I am no expert on this...

But I do know a little about a lot. :P

I want to add my opinion to those "holes"...

IMO... looks like it was used at some point for a target for bird shot... twice...
Hit once from the front by 3 pellets...
And from reverse by the looks of other holes.

Prolly shot by someone who was not fond of this buckle for a reason.
