On Wednesday I detected the first site alone which originally had a log cabin on it with the old stone foundation still visible. According to the landowner, the log cabin was dismantled and moved to a nearby town to be reincarnated as the local visitor center. The biggest challenge here were the 5’ tall thistles! On this site, I found a 1936 Dog Tag, a brass hair clip and an iron padlock. The farmer said that he was thinking of cutting and baling the thistles, as this is pastureland for his cattle. If he does this, I’ll most definitely return, as there have to be some older finds hiding in the thistles here! :icon_scratch:

On Thursday, I met up with Pepperj at a site he’s only detected occasionally, but I’ve been here at least 20 times over the past 3 years. This site has a long history of habitation, I feel there were at least 4 early 1800’s homes situated here, although none remain today. I found a couple of horse buckles, an 1882 Victoria LC and a badly damaged match safe, it still has some of the engraved details on it. However, the best find of the day came at the hands of Pepperj, when he dug this beautiful early lead printing plate of a brass or iron bed. :notworthy: The plate is stamped #326 & Ideal Furniture Co.

The nicest surprise came last night when I received a text from Pepperj telling me that he was giving the plate to me!
Thanks again buddy, you’re a good friend!:occasion14:

Thanks for looking,
Dave

Nice assortment of finds Dave, you seemed to know the site so well that you can pull the finds from the site. It was a challenging section where there was the pieces of rock in the soil, I did a few hits on the targets while doing the recoveries. I'll have to go over to the mid house location when I get the CTX back and see if there is any deep ones left in the 12"+ range. :)
The 1936 dog tag that has been clipped is an interesting why they did it?
As always it was great meeting up once again and pleasant break from my own homesite hunts that have kept me grounded lately. We'll have to see what the weather/soil conditions are in a few weeks, maybe some of the crops will be coming off (wishful thinking).

Nice finds Dave. I like the old padlock. Hope the farmer cuts the thistles so you can get back in there.

Congrats on some cool old relics. Like that padlock.

Thanks for your post KS!
The padlock, the iron buckles, the castor wheel and the iron spoon bowl are currently tumbling, they should be done by tomorrow night.

Best of luck to you in Auburn,
Dave

Nice rice finds! Congrats!

Good friends are rarer than hens teeth!

I hear you about good friends MsBB, it seems the older we get the less we can tolerate them... sorta like our kids! :laughing7:
Now go find some silver! :hello:
Dave

I like your photos ,the old padlock and the 1936 dog tag.

Thank you very much Sir! :icon_salut:
I think having lots of pics puts the finds in context and gives you a better perspective of how they got there!
Dave

Thanks again for taking the time to meet up again Jim, I know you have a lot happening on the farm. :occasion14:
I definitely think your CTX could pull more of the deep ones from here, my AT Pro is good, but it's not that good! :laughing7:
I keep looking longingly at the hay fields now that they've been cut for the second time this year and can't wait for the cooler weather to get back on the badge site.

We'll have to get back together again in October and hunt that site down the road that you and I were discussing, where the grass is currently too tall!
Dave

Nice assortment, love that padlock.

Thanks for your post qaela, I'll post a pick of it late tomorrow night as it's currently in the tumbler! :icon_thumright:

NICE FINDS ANTIQUE.

Thank you very much sutphin!

I like the padlock, dog tag & Large Cent.

Thanks for being the only one to mention the LC Trezurehunter!
I always get excited when I find these pre-1900 coin, especially the Vickies! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you,
Dave

Nice broach

Thanks very much Oball, I think it may be a brooch for a hair bun. :dontknow:
Dave

Nice finds Dave. I like the old padlock. Hope the farmer cuts the thistles so you can get back in there.

I sure hope so too Dave, because those nettles really stung my forearms! :laughing7:
All of the items, the padlock, the hair brooch and the dog tag were found within a few feet of the foundation.
Once the nettles are gone, the finds should become more plentiful and hopefully much earlier, these all seem to date to the 1920's or 30's. :icon_scratch:

Take care buddy,
Dave

Thanks for your post Evo! :occasion14:
It was a very peaceful site to detect, it was way in the back country and very quiet, except for the mosquitoes!
Dave

Those are some nice old finds. I'm liking the padlock also.

In all honesty I wish they were older, but I think this site still has much more to give!

Best of luck to you RJ,
Dave

Love the padlock. I have found 2 old ones this year-1 an old railroad lock.

I too love finding padlocks, I'm having trouble figuring out how old this one might be?
I'm thinking it's from the 1920's or 30's?

I'd love to find a complete brass railroad padlock someday, guess I need to get onto more old station sites!

Thanks for your words of support Eric! :occasion14:
I feel the same way, sometimes the relics can be more interesting then finding an old penny... but a silver quarter or half sure would've been sweet! :laughing7:
Dave

Sweet hunt!!

Love the dog tag and that old lock is Nice!

Thanks deershed, I just changed the tumbler medium after 12hrs of tumbling and will post the results tonight.
Considering that this lock has been laying in a field being urinated on by cattle for the past 30+ years, the lock is cleaning up very nicely! :laughing9:

Thanks for your post and for the words of support ATW! :occasion14:
I'll have to keep in touch with the farmer's son, as he's a buddy and will let me know when the thistles are gone! :laughing7:

Best of luck to you,
Dave
