Wow what a day!
We are still in search mode & we covered about 8 fields in the morning with just 1 hammered to show.
After lunch we did some long searches into fields around our Roman Metal Working Site. After which we decided to do the edges of the site whilst we waited for Land-Mag to join us & try some more new land. What a stroke of luck that was!
We were getting the odd scrappy when Cru'Dad pops out a 31BC Roman Silver! Great job done, he wants to move on & wait for Land-Mag. I told him we had plenty of time & to keep gridding a bit more. Not long after he shouts in a way it was easy to guess; "Guess what I just found". My immediate response was CELTIC GOLD, & the celebrations began.....
We then tried 2 new fields with Land-Mag & only got 1 scrappy.
To get a Roman BC coin is rare for us to get a BC Celtic 10 minutes later is a first.

6 scrappies
1943 Sixpence
Lizzy 1565 3 Pence
Georgian Seal Fob (no stone)
Medieval openwork Mount (broken)
Roman Hair Pin
Mark Antony Legionary Denarius of the VII Legion 31 BC
CELTIC AMBIANI - GALLIC WAR - GALLO-BELGIC E GOLD STATER Circa 50BC

If you read up on them, they are both historic coins, & involve the payment of either Legionaries or Celtic Mercenaries!!!
NO VOTES PLEASE (Both were Cru'Dads finds - non-member)

PS. This will be the first Gold Coin we give away to the landowner. We did promise if we had another of the same type he could have it. They have been very good to us & have never wanted any money for the valueable finds/coins.

Now that's a nice spread of different types and dates of coins!

I can't imaging giving away a Celtic gold coin, you are THE MAN for letting the landowner keep it.

Congratulations, and good karma to you.

Amazing ancient gold coin! I feel privileged just to be one of the first to see this post! Banner anyone? :treasurechest::notworthy:

Cru'dad is not a memeber therefore his finds can not count towards the banner. But he knows it was a banner day. Cru'dad does this, he is a slow burn; very little, very little, followed by very little, & then BANG!

Yea Cru' Dad !! (Sign him up. :D) How noble it was to gift the ancient gold to the landowner. The Roman silver is an excellent example. This type is usually found in a worn slick state. I see this impressive coin has full detail. I imagine the three pence was a day's pay in 1535? Very significant finds. Great Day all around!
Best Regards,
Phil

Yes the 3pence would be about a days pay for 90% of the nation.

Killer finds! So that stater is a duplicate of one you guys found elsewhere, or on that landowner's property in the past?

Also, that denarius is in pretty nice shape considering the age, those seem to be pretty worn down if/when found in Great Britain.

I think you know my feeling on selling & giving. I'm a collector, so I give away doubles or triples, but have never given a Gold coin for obivous reasons.
This time is different. We have had 4 Celtic Gold off their land, & they have lots of land, so spread over varies farms. 1 happened to be the same type as this one. The odds are stacked against us, but if it were to happen its going to be this type, because this one is now the 3rd of this type (2-1 to Dad). So by giving this one we keep our promise & we already have 2 other examples.
The reason its going to be this type is because of the Gallic Wars, they were minting Millions of them to pay the biggest Celtic Army ever assembled. After the defeat many fled to Britain with their wealth (easy to carry).

Thanks for all the comments, including this one. No need to pass on thanks, as Dad reads them all.
