Well I've found 3 of these Donnelly and Tutt tags over the years. I would guess they are assay tags. This 4 th one I just found. I haven't cleaned but it was so crusted I threw it in a vibrasonic tumbler to get rid of the crust. Didn't work. It must have been in a fire. I will have to take my dremel and carefully grind it away. Treasures like this are the very best for me. I love the anticipation! This crusty one is different and has a different company on it. Hopefully I will have time soon to post a pic of the cleaned tag. There is never enough time in a day. Tutt must have met Donnelly before meeting Penrose. Donnelly had a store eary in Cripple Creek. Permissions are hard up here it takes quite a few times out to find something good. I sure love this hobby!

Cool tags and thanks for sharing. I'll bet it is hard for permission up there...

Have you tried a rock tumbler to clean stuff like that?

You might want to try a soak in lemon juice just to see if it helps.
