I found this awesome Navy Button today at my Civil War relic honey hole. I think it may be from the War of 1812 era! I am so excited! I also found another three ringer bullet and a 1934 Wheat Cent. What a way to end a great 4 day weekend of detecting!

Yes, I did. I usually am too afraid of cleaning certain things, but I know he has a lot more experience than I on this. I do like it. I used water and a tooth brush, then CLR, then more water. Then dried it and applied a little paraffin wax. I am very pleased with it!

Nice looking button. The gilt protected it for many years. Naval buttons were often heavily gilted to protect them from the sea salt atmosphere.
